Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Director of High-Performance, Akram Javed, has expressed disappointment in the team’s performance in the T20 World Cup, stating that they failed to perform as expected. In a press conference in Lahore, he revealed that the team’s selectors were hesitant to make any changes to the 15-member squad, which was finalized by coach Jason Gillespie. Javed claimed that the selectors should have been given more autonomy to make decisions, especially considering the team’s underperformance.
“We had high hopes from the T20 World Cup, but we were unable to perform as desired,” Javed said. “We expected to reach the semifinals, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen.” He emphasized that the selectors should have been given more freedom to make decisions, and the coaches and captain should have been given more authority to make selections.
Javed also stated that the board had provided the selectors with a list of 20 players to choose from, but they were hesitant to make any changes. He claimed that the selectors were under pressure to select players from the existing pool, rather than introducing new talent.
“We had to make a choice between selecting players from the existing pool or introducing new talent,” Javed said. “The selectors were under pressure to select players who had already played for the team, rather than giving new players a chance.”
He also accused the coaches of lack of autonomy in team selection, stating that they should have been given more authority to select players based on their performance.
“The coaches and captain should have been given more authority to select players based on their performance,” Javed said. “The selectors should have been given more autonomy to make decisions, and the coaches and captain should have been given more authority to select players.”
Javed also revealed that two players, Babar Azam and Fawad Alam, were injured during the Bangladesh series and were unable to play. He claimed that the board would investigate how the players got injured, especially considering that they were injured immediately after the World Cup.
“This is a matter of concern for us,” Javed said. “We need to investigate how these players got injured, especially considering that they were injured immediately after the World Cup.”
He also accused the coaches of lack of transparency in team selection, stating that they should have been more open about their selection process.
“The coaches and captain should have been more transparent about their selection process,” Javed said. “They should have been more open about their decisions and should have given more credit to the selectors who made the right calls.”
Javed also claimed that the board had made significant changes to the team selection process, but the coaches and captain were still not giving them enough credit.
“We have made significant changes to the team selection process, but the coaches and captain are still not giving us enough credit,” Javed said. “We need to work together to improve the team’s performance and to give the selectors more autonomy to make decisions.”
