The world is heading towards a new global energy crisis due to the escalating tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran, which experts have termed as the largest oil supply shock in history. Reports indicate that the global market has seen an increase in crude oil prices, largely due to a nearly 20% decrease in global oil production, which amounts to around 2 billion barrels per day. Experts say that this situation arose when the Hormuz Strait, a critical waterway for global energy supply, was affected by the escalating tensions and blockade, making it difficult for oil tankers to pass through.
Major oil-producing countries like the UAE and Kuwait have also reduced their oil production, while Iran’s oil installations have been attacked, further exacerbating the situation. According to IMF Managing Director, about 90% of maritime shipping has been affected, with major oil and gas facilities damaged, leading to disruptions in energy supplies. M.D. IMF added that energy security has become the biggest issue for most countries in Asia and around the world.
ANZ Group’s Chief Economist said that around 20% of the world’s crude oil is transported through the Hormuz Strait, which may lead to continued pressure on oil prices. On the other hand, countries in the G20 are considering releasing emergency oil reserves to maintain economic stability. Experts warn that if tensions do not subside, the impact of this crisis will not be limited to energy but also affect global trade, inflation, and the supply chain.
In a separate development, the US has increased pressure on Iran, warning that it may target the country with 20 times greater force if it blocks the Hormuz Strait. Iran has responded by saying that mediation or negotiations should not be limited to ceasefire. The Liberal Democratic Party leader has demanded that the US cancel its official visit to the US due to the ongoing war in Iran.
Meanwhile, North Korea’s leader has said that his country does not want to go to war, but is not willing to back down either. The Pakistani showbiz industry’s renowned actress, Sajal Aly, has been affected by fake reviews, which has left her shaken. Major oil-producing countries have significantly reduced their daily oil output. The ongoing war in the Middle East has led to a surge in tensions in the region, with fresh attacks and counterattacks further escalating the situation.

The US has threatened Iran with 20 times greater force if it blocks the Hormuz Strait, prompting Iran to respond.
