A series of unexplained earthquakes near a secret military base in Nevada has sparked a new wave of speculation about a possible US nuclear test. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), a total of 16 moderate earthquakes were recorded near the secret military facility known as Area 52, which is located near the famous Area 51. The latter has been shrouded in mystery for decades due to its association with extraterrestrial theories. The British newspaper, The Daily Mail, reported that over 100 seismic activities were detected within a 50-mile radius of the Tonopah Test Range, which has been used by the US military for experimental research and nuclear testing for decades.
In a statement, Iranian Defense Ministry’s spokesperson Brigadier General Reza Talai said that Iran is fully prepared for a long war and that it would not use its effective weapons at the beginning. The intensity of the recorded quakes ranged from 1.0 to 3.0, which is below the typical magnitude of 4.0 to 6.0 or higher associated with underground nuclear explosions, which depend on the power of the bomb and the depth of the detonation.
The mysterious quakes have emerged at a time when the US is engaged in a large-scale bombing campaign against Iran under Operation Apocryphal Fury, with US President Donald Trump warning that the worst is yet to come. The New START treaty, which limited the number of nuclear weapons between the US and Russia, has expired, leading to concerns about an escalation of the global arms race.
Despite official denials, the US government has not ruled out the possibility that the earthquakes were caused by a nuclear test. The Iranian Foreign Ministry claims that if Israel attacks the Iranian embassy in Beirut, Israel’s diplomatic missions around the world will be targeted. The US and Russia have exchanged accusations of violating the New START treaty, with the US accusing Russia of non-compliance.
In a separate development, the US military has confirmed that it has attacked an Iranian warship in the waters off Sri Lanka. The US has also accused Iran of violating the 2015 nuclear deal, which has led to a deterioration in relations between the two countries. The US has imposed new sanctions on Iran, which has responded by vowing to increase its military capabilities.
As tensions between the US and Iran continue to escalate, the international community is bracing for a possible conflict. The Iranian government has called for calm and restraint, while the US has warned that it will take all necessary measures to protect its interests. The situation remains fluid, with both sides engaging in a war of words and actions.
