Pakistan’s Islamabad District and Sessions Court has issued a bailable warrant to the founders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, Imran Khan and Shahbaz Gill, in a treason case. The court’s written order was issued by Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka after the prosecution failed to present any evidence against the accused, proving that they had incited violence.
The court stated that the prosecution was unable to provide any evidence to prove that the protests were led by the PTI founders, and their presence at the sites of the protests was also not established. In the written order, it was mentioned that the prosecution was also unable to present any evidence in cases related to the 9 May protests and the accused’s alleged involvement in the murder of several people.
In response to the court’s decision, the government may withdraw the bailable warrant if Imran Khan hinders the investigation. The court ordered that the bailable warrants for Imran Khan and Shahbaz Gill be issued in exchange for a surety of 50,000 rupees each.
