Pakistan has sent a strong message to the world by taking down the regional power’s influence in the past year, said President Asif Ali Zardari in a speech to the joint session of the parliament. On the night of February 26, the Taliban regime launched an attack on the western border, and our security forces made it clear that any act of aggression would not be tolerated.
Our brave forces have turned the Indian attack into a historic triumph, said President Zardari. Whenever the national sovereignty is challenged on any front, Pakistan reaffirms its strong resolve. Our forces have demonstrated professionalism and discipline by conducting unprovoked attacks on both borders.
The Pakistani forces have given a decisive response to the Afghan Taliban, said President Zardari. The sacrifices of the Pakistani forces are not limited to mere numbers; the united leadership and the steadfast nation have shown courage and dedication. The bravery, readiness, and service of our brave soldiers have made us safe today. The sacrifices of our forces and institutions cannot be reduced to mere numbers; we proudly showcase their achievements in the media, but we fail to see the blood, sweat, and tears that go into their training, hard work, and service.
As the twice-elected President of Pakistan, this is my 9th address to the parliament, said President Zardari. Each address is a reminder of the democratic system, responsibility, and accountability. The test of a nation is not only in times of crisis but also when it faces important junctures. As we begin a new parliamentary year, we must continue to reaffirm this resolve.
The protection of national sovereignty, the rule of law, and economic progress are our priorities, said President Zardari. We must continue to work towards the happiness of our citizens, peace, and stability. We stand on the foundations laid by our national struggle’s architects, who envisioned a democratic state based on the constitution and the rule of law. Quaid-e-Azam envisioned a democratic state, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave the nation a unanimous constitution, and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto strengthened the democratic process with her sacrifices and exemplary leadership.
As the President of Pakistan, I have restored the original constitution, said President Zardari. I have transferred my powers to the parliament. This office is a bridge between federal units and a guardian of constitutional laws. In the past 10 months, our nation has faced complex challenges. In the joint session of the parliament, President Zardari’s speech was disrupted by opposition members, who stood up and raised slogans.
