The United States President Donald Trump has expressed his willingness to engage in negotiations with Iran’s new leadership. In an interview with the American publication The Atlantic, Trump stated that Iran’s new leaders are eager to engage in talks. This comes as Israel claims to have obtained evidence of the death of former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Trump expressed his expectations of Iran’s reaction to the US and Israeli airstrikes, stating that they were less than anticipated. He further claimed that the airstrikes on Iran have made diplomacy easier, allowing the US to negotiate a peaceful solution with Iran. This is in contrast to the US military’s assertion that the airstrikes were aimed at preventing Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
The Iranian state TV, however, reported that Supreme Leader’s wife, Masoumeh Baghbidi, was severely injured in the US airstrikes. The Saudi Embassy stated that the Kingdom has always supported diplomatic efforts to achieve a reliable agreement with Iran. The historical Golestan Palace in Tehran has reportedly suffered damage following the recent US and Israeli airstrikes.
In a separate development, several Afghan Taliban officials have relocated to the province of Bamiyan due to concerns of Pakistani airstrikes. A protest rally was held in Vienna’s central district, calling for an end to the conflict in the region. Former Chairperson of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jemima Khan, has been fined £1,000 in the UK for violating the country’s anti-war laws.
In response to the recent US and Israeli airstrikes, the US Central Command reported that three F-15E fighter jets crashed in Kuwait due to friendly fire. The US has expressed concern over the rising tensions in the region, with the Iranian Red Crescent Society stating that 131 cities were targeted in the airstrikes.
