Sindh Chief Minister Saeeduzzaman Murad Ali Shah has expressed deep condolences on the passing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He stated that the people of Sindh stand in solidarity with the Iranian people and all those mourning Khamenei’s death, particularly in the wake of the tragic incident at the American consulate. The chief minister emphasized that the government cannot allow any individual to take the law into their own hands, and that the protection of the people’s lives and property is the government’s top priority.
In light of the developing situation, Murad Ali Shah directed the authorities to conduct an impartial investigation into the incident. He also called for calm and restraint, stating that the country is facing a precarious situation and that such tensions are not conducive to peace and stability.
The Sindh chief minister subsequently reached out to prominent clerics, including Allama Shahenshah Nqvi, Allama Shabir Mehsri, and others, to request that they help keep the emotions of the people under control. According to the provincial government’s spokesperson, Allama Shahenshah Nqvi has proposed the idea of convening a meeting to discuss the situation, and the chief minister has instructed the administration and police to provide complete security for the gathering.
Murad Ali Shah also appealed to scholars and representatives of various schools of thought to guide the people towards peace. He directed the authorities to maintain law and order at all costs and requested the people to cooperate in maintaining peace and stability.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif telephoned King Abdullah II of Jordan to discuss the rapidly changing situation in the region. According to a statement issued by the government, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty, independence, and dignity at all costs.
The Ministry of Defense of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) released a detailed report on the Iranian attacks and their consequences. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed solidarity with the Iranian people in their time of grief, stating that the people and government of Pakistan stand in equal measure with the Iranian people in their sorrow.
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced a relief for postgraduate students and degree holders who enrolled in various programs prior to January 16, 2023. Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council, Allama Shahenshah Nqvi, expressed condolences, stating that the death of Ayatollah Khamenei is a tragic loss for the Muslim world. However, he assured that no Pakistani has been affected in Iran.
Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Barrister Gohar Khan, expressed deep condolences, stating that the news of Khamenei’s death has caused immense shock. Meanwhile, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps has claimed to have targeted an American aircraft carrier, the USS Abraham Lincoln, with four ballistic missiles in the Gulf.
In a separate development, protesters attempted to enter the American consulate and pelted stones, following which the authorities issued a warning against lawlessness, vandalism, and violent protests. Chairman of the Pakistan Rangers, Mohsin Naqvi, condemned the violence, stating that any attempt to disrupt peace and stability will not be tolerated.
The situation remains tense, with Iran’s missile attacks on sensitive installations in the region, including a New Clear missile facility in the Beith Shemesh area. The UAE Ministry of Defense released a detailed report on the Iranian attacks and their consequences.
