In a statement from Islamabad, prominent cleric Maulana Shahenshah Naqvi appealed for protesters to remain peaceful in the wake of Khamenei’s assassination. He noted that Pakistan’s land has been plagued by instability, particularly due to foreign conspiracies, and that the country is facing numerous challenges, including terrorism and border issues.
As protests erupted across the country, at least eight people were killed in Karachi when police fired shells to disperse a crowd of protesters outside the US consulate. Protesters vowed to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty, independence, and dignity at all costs.
The Iranian government has announced a seven-day mourning period and 40 days of national mourning for Khamenei’s passing, who was killed in a drone strike at his office while performing his duties. The Iranian military has vowed to take revenge against the perpetrators and has warned that they will not hesitate to take action against any aggressor.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his condolences to the people of Iran, saying that Pakistan stands in solidarity with the Iranian nation in its time of grief. The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced a relief package for postgraduate students and degree holders who entered medical and dental programs before January 16, 2023. There have been no reports of any Pakistani casualties in Iran.
Prominent Pakistani cleric Hafiz Muhammad Taahir Mahmood Ashrafi expressed deep sorrow and regret over Khamenei’s assassination, saying that the Islamic world is deeply distressed by the news. The spokesperson for the Rangers has warned against any violent protests, saying that law and order will not be compromised.
Pakistan’s Army has taken control of the Afghan Taliban’s headquarters, while the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps has claimed to have targeted a US aircraft carrier in the Gulf with four ballistic missiles.
