Pakistan’s military has made significant gains in its operation against the Afghan Taliban, with a total of 72 militants killed and over 120 injured, according to a statement by the country’s Foreign Ministry. The operation, which began with airstrikes on Taliban positions in Kandahar, Paktia, and Kabul, has resulted in the destruction of 12 Taliban posts and the capture of five others. The Pakistani military has also reported that it has taken control of seven Taliban checkposts, and that 36 tanks, artillery pieces, and armored vehicles have been destroyed.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mosharraf Zaidi, said that the operation was successful without any Pakistani casualties or fatalities. He also accused India of spreading propaganda about Pakistan’s involvement in the conflict, saying that the country would respond swiftly and effectively to any aggression.
The Pakistani government has also announced that it is suspending drone strikes within its territory, a move seen as a positive step towards reducing tensions with neighboring countries. The Higher Education Commission has warned universities to fill vacant administrative and teaching positions by August 15, 2026, due to the prolonged delay in appointments.
Meanwhile, the opposition alliance has held its first meeting with the government, led by opposition leader Mahmood Achakzai and Rana Sanaullah. The meeting focused on the country’s current political situation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also visited the GHQ in Rawalpindi, where he was briefed on the situation in Afghanistan.
The Pakistan Peoples Party’s leader, Senator Sherry Rehman, has questioned whether the Afghan government is responsible for the situation on its own soil. The country’s governor, Fayyazul Hassan Chohan, has also said that the country will not compromise on its defense.
The Afghan Taliban’s spokesperson has confirmed that their positions have been bombed in Kandahar, Paktia, and Kabul. The Supreme Court has directed a petitioner to approach the high court for a decision. Petroleum products are expected to become more expensive from March 1, with petrol prices possibly rising to Rs. 458 per liter.
In a positive development, the Higher Education Commission has directed all universities to fill vacant administrative and teaching positions by August 15, 2026, in a bid to address the prolonged delay in appointments.
