India and Israel have deepened their ties in recent years, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announcing the formation of a new regional alliance, “Hexagon” or “MidEast”, which includes India, Arab countries, African nations, and Mediterranean countries like Greece and Cyprus.
Before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel, Netanyahu revealed plans to establish a new regional alliance, “Hexagon”, aimed at boosting connectivity and economic growth in the region while countering emerging extremist Shia and Sunni fronts.
The new alliance will comprise countries with diverse interests, and Netanyahu believes that their collaboration could yield spectacular results, paving the way for a brighter future.
However, not everyone is optimistic about the new alliance. Andreas Krieg, a security studies associate professor at King’s College London, has described the alliance as a sign of danger, warning that it could lead to increased instability in the region.
If India were to join the alliance, its core interests would likely lie in defense, technology, and trade rather than supporting Israel’s regional ambitions, according to Krieg.
While the formation of the alliance is still in its early stages, Iran faces mounting pressure due to ongoing US-Iran tensions. US President Donald Trump’s speech at the State of the Union addressed the Iran crisis, and tensions between the US and Iran continue to escalate.
