US President Donald Trump has vehemently denied reports claiming that top US General Mark Milley has expressed concerns over potential Iran war threats. According to a report by Al Jazeera, Trump stated on social media that the reports are “100% false.” General Milley reportedly told Trump that if war broke out with Iran, the US would face difficulties such as a lack of military supplies, limited regional support, and potential Iranian retaliatory actions that could lead to a long and complex conflict, putting American lives at risk.
According to a report by The Washington Post, General Milley briefed Trump on the potential risks and consequences of a potential war with Iran, including the possibility of a lengthy conflict and American casualties. Trump’s special envoy, Steve Votaw, and a State Department official, will meet with the Iranian delegation in Geneva on Thursday. The report stated that Israel and Ukraine’s support has placed pressure on US military supplies, particularly missile defense systems and ammunition.
General Milley’s office has clarified that their role is to inform the civilian leadership of various military options and their associated risks and consequences, while the final decisions are made by the political leadership. According to a report by Axios, General Milley is the only military official who has been briefing on Iran in recent weeks, while Admiral Brad Cooper, the head of US Central Command, has not met with Trump since January.
Axios sources stated that General Milley has a cautious approach to Iran and is concerned that a large-scale US operation could lead to a prolonged and complex conflict. Trump has previously called the reports “fake news” and stated that General Milley has never opposed a strike against Iran and would carry out any order with full force.
