A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan on Tuesday night, causing minor tremors in the capital city of Taipei and the coastal area of Yilan County, according to foreign media reports. The earthquake had a depth of 66.8 kilometers, according to Taiwan’s meteorological agency, while the U.S. Geological Survey reported a depth of 14 kilometers.
No immediate reports of casualties or damage have been received. The Central Weather Administration of Taiwan said the tremors were recorded at 12:37 a.m. on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, a technical malfunction led to a helicopter crash near the Indian Ocean, killing the pilot, co-pilot, and two vendors on board.
