Peshawar High Court witnessed a dramatic turn of events during the hearing of disappearance cases, as an individual reported missing earlier turned up in court. Chief Justice SM Ateeq Shah was presiding over the hearing of the petitions related to disappearances in Peshawar High Court. During the proceedings, a lawyer representing a petitioner informed the court that the mentioned individual had returned.
Despite the lack of satisfactory response from law enforcement and court orders, the court had already issued punishments for those who failed to appear. Chief Justice SM Ateeq Shah inquired about the individual’s disappearance, to which the lawyer replied that the individual was taken away by an SP City. In the same case, the mother of a missing son also appeared in court seeking the recovery of her child.
The Additional Advocate General suggested that the police should investigate the missing person’s friends, which may lead to new evidence. Chief Justice SM Ateeq Shah remarked that the protection of citizens is the constitutional responsibility of the government. The court directed the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a comprehensive report in the next hearing.
