Pakistan and the US-International Development Finance Corporation (IDFC) have agreed to increase investment in the country, with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of IDFC, Benjamin Blak.
The meeting between the Prime Minister and the IDFC CEO was attended by the Investment Conner of IDFC, Conor Colm, and other senior leaders of the agency. The Prime Minister praised IDFC for its efforts to increase economic collaboration and activate joint projects of private institutions.
The Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Mohamad Ishaq Dar, stated that Pakistan has become a secure country for foreign investment.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister asked IDFC to increase funding for energy, mining and minerals, agriculture, and IT projects. The Prime Minister also appreciated IDFC’s portfolio of over $1 billion.
The Prime Minister highlighted the alignment of economic priorities between the two countries and invited IDFC to participate in the Minerals Conference in Islamabad in April. On the other hand, Benjamin Blak briefed the Prime Minister on IDFC’s strategic steps, priorities, and expected projects in Pakistan.
The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Suhail Aftab, commented that if the founder of PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) had focused on health instead of politics, his approach would have been different.
