The West End in London, a popular region, has been illuminated with lights for the fourth consecutive year in preparation for the sacred month of Ramadan. The famous Covert Garden Street, which connects two of the city’s busiest locations, Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square, has been lit up with beautiful starry lights prior to the arrival of Ramadan. Mayor of London Sadiq Khan inaugurated the ‘Ramadan Lights’ and this year, the event was organized by the Aziz Foundation. More than 30,000 LED lights will illuminate the sky between Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square from 5 pm to 5 am in the month of Ramadan. In this regard, Mayor Sadiq Khan shared a special video on Instagram, saying that four years ago, London was the first city in the Western world to be illuminated with lights to welcome Ramadan, and tonight, London is aglow with the light of hope and unity.
Ramadan is a time for the renewal of faith and helping the needy and reflecting on the difficulties faced by those whose fortunes are not in their favor, said Mayor Sadiq Khan. He added that every year, we see unbelievable acts of charity from our Muslim brothers and sisters during Ramadan, and I am sure that this year will be no different. The Mayor thanked all the Muslim residents of London for making the city a great city.
Ramadan is a time to promote unity and respect for the differences that bring us together, said Mayor Sadiq Khan, adding that we will continue to stand together and respect our differences and defend the values that unite us. He concluded by wishing everyone a blessed Ramadan, saying that our message during Ramadan is that you will always be welcomed with love, regardless of your faith.
