The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas has revealed its stance on the proposed international peace force for the Gaza Strip ahead of a meeting of the Board of Governors of the Jewish Agency, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday.
The meeting is expected to focus on the establishment of an interim government in Palestine, the role of Hamas, and a permanent ceasefire. The agenda also includes discussions on the deployment of a global peace force and its terms of reference.
According to foreign media, Hamas has outlined its conditions for accepting an international peace force in the Gaza Strip. The Islamist movement has stated that the force must remain at the borders and refrain from interfering in Palestinian civil, political, and security matters. Hamas has also clarified that it has no objections to the deployment of a global peace force if it serves as a buffer zone between the two sides.
Twenty-five countries have joined the Board of Governors, with US President Donald Trump serving as its chairman. Hamas spokesperson Bassam Naim has said that foreign intervention in Palestinian internal affairs is unacceptable. He added that if foreign personnel intervene, Palestinians would view them as an alternative to their occupation.
