Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has come under fire from his fellow filmmaker Priya Darrshan after being sentenced to jail for financial irregularities. Yadav, 69, has been involved in a number of films, including Bhagam Bhaag, Chup Chup Ke, and De Dhana Dhan, with Darrshan.
Darrshan has stated that Yadav made a big mistake and that his lack of education may have contributed to this. Yadav’s manager has defended him, saying that he tried to cast him in his film at a higher remuneration, which would have helped alleviate his financial difficulties. Several celebrities, including Suno Sood, Gurmmit Chaudhri, Gurinderdha, and Mika Singh, have offered Yadav financial assistance.
The Delhi High Court has adjourned Yadav’s bail hearing until Monday, as he is currently serving a sentence in Tihar Jail due to multiple check bounce cases. Yadav had surrendered on February 5 after the court refused to grant him more time, with approximately Rs 9 crore owed to him. The case began in 2010 when Yadav borrowed Rs 5 crore to make the film “Ata Pata Lapata,” which failed financially, leading to a financial dispute.
The court had sentenced Yadav to six months in jail in 2018, which was upheld in 2019. The amount owed has now increased to Rs 9 crore. Following reports of a threatening call from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, the police have increased security measures around Yadav.
