Pakistan has halted the deportation of an Indian woman, Sarbjit Kaur, who converted to Islam and married a Pakistani citizen, Naseer Hussain. Kaur, now known as Noor Fatima, has expressed her satisfaction with her decision and plans to spend the rest of her life in Pakistan.
In a media briefing, Noor Fatima and her husband, Naseer Hussain, were seen together with their lawyer. Noor Fatima stated that she is very happy and felt that her hands were made up for mehndi. She mentioned that she spent 8 years in love, and she was convinced that she would meet her husband one day. Even if she had become old, she would have still come to Pakistan. Noor Fatima praised the Pakistani authorities for their good treatment and stated that she had no complaints.
It is worth noting that Sarbjit Kaur is a resident of Kapurthala district in Indian Punjab. In November 2025, she traveled to Pakistan with a group of Sikh pilgrims for the 556th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Her visa expired on November 13, 2025, but she chose not to return to India. Noor Fatima converted to Islam and married Naseer Hussain, changing her name. On January 4, she and her husband were arrested by the police in Nankana Sahib and were planning to be deported to India.
However, the Pakistani government has decided to allow Noor Fatima to stay in the country. The move has sparked a reaction from various politicians and parties, with some expressing their disapproval.
