According to Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Ghazanfar Ali Shah, the two police officials, identified as Inspector Asad Qaiser and Constable Shahbaz, allegedly tortured the suspect, Khurram Iqbal, at the Thana (police station) in Jatoi. The DIGP stated that the incident was recorded on CCTV cameras installed at the Thana and that the higher authorities have seen the footage.
The DIGP also stated that the incident is a clear violation of the policy of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to not use torture on suspects in custody. Instead, they are to be investigated using modern techniques.
This incident has sparked outrage among the public, with many condemning the actions of the two police officials. The DIGP stated that the police officers have exceeded their authority and have committed misconduct.
