Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have extended their congratulations to the leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Tarique Rahman, on his party’s historic election victory in Bangladesh. President Zardari also congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the successful conduct of the elections with a turnout of 299 seats.
In a statement, President Zardari expressed his desire to cooperate with the new government of Bangladesh in areas such as trade, defense, culture, and regional forums. He also saw the Bangladeshi elections as an opportunity for South Asia to move forward from its past.
According to reports from the Bangladeshi media, Tarique Rahman said that he will work with the people who supported him in his movement to take the country forward.
President Zardari stated that the new political atmosphere in Dhaka will promote balanced, independent, and respectful relations in the region. He also expressed his good wishes for the continuous stability, progress, and prosperity of Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated Tarique Rahman on his party’s election victory. In a statement, he said that Pakistan is eager to work with the new leadership of Bangladesh to establish historic, brotherly, and multi-dimensional relations between the two countries.
He added that better relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh will benefit the people of both countries. The Prime Minister also stated that both countries will work together to achieve common goals of peace, stability, and progress in South Asia through mutual cooperation.
In other news, a gun attack in Sialkot’s Ferozepur Colony resulted in the murder of a 25-year-old woman. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sheikh Waqas Akram said that the treatment of the party’s founder chairman should have started immediately after the report.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also made phone calls to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zahir Ahmad Babar Siddique, who is currently on a visit to Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal, said that if progress is made in the health sector, the dharma will disperse. Federal Minister for Interior, Senator Mohsin Nawaz Khatip said that the party’s ideology, not the opposition’s criticism, is the strength of the party.
In a separate incident, the Pakistan Navy’s newest ship, PNS Khyber, visited the Turkish Navy’s base in Istanbul as part of its first voyage.
