A nationwide crackdown on criminals, smugglers, and those involved in serious crimes is ongoing in Balochistan province. According to the spokesperson for the Balochistan Police, 164 suspects were arrested during a special operation. The spokesperson further stated that 231 suspects were apprehended in a crackdown on smugglers, and cases have been registered against them. The Karachi Police have carried out operations in various areas, resulting in the recovery of 151 pistols, 20 Kalashnikovs, bullets, and magazines from arrested suspects. Additionally, 9 smuggled goods were recovered, including 2,845 kilograms of charas, 2,443 grams of ice, and 114 grams of heroin.
The spokesperson for the police said that the arrested suspects were involved in serious crimes, including narcotics trafficking. Meanwhile, the opposition party MQM has accused the federal government of being responsible for the ongoing protests. In a related development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke to the President of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Tarique Rahman, to congratulate him on the party’s electoral victory.
Provincial Minister for Minerals and Mines, Prince Ahmed Umer Ahmedzai, said that if progress is made on healthcare, the protests will disperse. Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, said that the government has taken action multiple times in the past but it has always ended in failure.
