Pakistani High Commissioner to Canada, Muhammad Salman, has strongly condemned the ongoing oppression and brutality faced by the Kashmiri people at the hands of Indian authorities. He made these remarks while addressing a ceremony held in Ottawa to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day. In his speech, the High Commissioner paid tribute to the unwavering resolve, courage, and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people despite facing prolonged difficulties.
High Commissioner Muhammad Salman reiterated Pakistan’s principled stance, emphasizing that the solution to the Kashmir issue lies in the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions and holding a free and fair plebiscite in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He urged the international community to play its effective role in ensuring justice and accountability, and to uphold international law and human rights.
On the occasion, special messages from President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, were read out. Documentary films highlighting the struggle of the Kashmiri people were also screened.
It is worth mentioning that Pakistan High Commission in Ottawa, as well as in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, observed Kashmir Solidarity Day. In a separate development, a candidate from the Pakistan Peoples Party, Siraj Rais Khan, appealed to the smugglers in Chittagong-13 to stop their activities until the upcoming national elections.
