The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the recent bombing at a mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan. According to foreign media reports, the Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated in a statement that the bombing, which targeted a mosque, is a heinous act of terrorism. The statement further noted that several innocent lives were lost and many others were injured in the blast, and that Qatar reiterates its unwavering stance against terrorism and violent activities.
The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has also condemned the bombing in Islamabad, terming it a “horrific” attack. In a statement, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) rejected the targeting of places of worship and the spread of fear among innocent civilians.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also extended its condolences to the families of the victims, the Pakistani government, and the people of Pakistan. The incident occurred on Sunday when a bomb exploded at the Imam Bargah and Mosque Khadija-e-Kubra in the Trelai area of Islamabad, resulting in the deaths of 32 people and injuring over 170 others.
The Interior Ministry of Pakistan has stated that the evidence suggests that the plot to carry out the attack was planned, trained, and coordinated by the terrorist organization Daesh (ISIS) in Afghanistan, under the patronage of the Afghan Taliban. The group poses a significant threat to regional peace and stability.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court has sentenced Imran Mazari and his husband, Haday Ali Chatha, to 17 years in prison each for their role in a scandal. The United Nations has also condemned the bombing and expressed solidarity with the people of Pakistan and the government in their fight against terrorism and extremism.
