The government has given its approval for a special package for utility store employees as directed by Prime Minister Shabaz Sharif. A meeting held under the chairmanship of Haroon Akthar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Industry and Production, saw an agreement reached between the Utility Stores Corporation and the National Workers Union. According to a statement, affected employees will receive a compensatory package under the agreement, with the process of distributing checks already underway.
Under the agreement, employees will receive payments in three stages – 40% initially, followed by 30% and then another 30%. Annual increments for 2024 and 2025 will also be included in the package. Haroon Akthar stated that the government will provide financial assistance to ensure that payments are made to the employees, and that the government will not leave workers stranded. He further added that the government is committed to protecting the rights of workers, as envisioned by the Prime Minister, and that most employees have voluntarily accepted the package.
The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Industry and Production also stated that the Prime Minister’s top priority is the financial protection of affected families. The Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan Railway project has been declared crucial for regional connectivity, with both countries agreeing to increase cooperation in energy, defense, tourism, and education.
