According to Indian media, Ankur battered his pregnant wife Kajal before hitting her on the head with a dumbbell, which resulted in her death. When Ankur called Kajal’s brother Nikhil on the phone during the incident, he said he was killing his sister. Delhi Police stated that the incident occurred on January 22nd night, where Ankur first called Nikhil and threatened him, saying “understand your sister” and then cut the call before killing his wife.
In a similar incident in Australia, Vikrant Thakor, a person of Indian origin, admitted to killing his wife Supriya Thakor in a court hearing. However, Thakor denied the charges of murder, claiming that he was not responsible for the incident, but rather an accident that occurred unintentionally. Indian media reported that Ankur called Nikhil again a few minutes after the initial call and told him that Kajal had died.
Police stated that Ankur and Kajal had a loving relationship, but Ankur had been harassing Kajal for a long time over dowry demands. Ankur has been arrested and charged with murder and dowry harassment under the Indian Penal Code. Kajal’s family has accused Ankur of subjecting her to domestic violence and harassment over dowry demands.
