In a recent hearing at the Lahore High Court, a three-member bench led by Chief Justice Ayesha Nisar Alamani directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to file a reference in the accountability court regarding the closure of the Chaudhry Sugar Mills reference within a month. The court also directed the submission of Rs 7 crores, which were collected as a guarantee, to be returned.
During the hearing, the NAB prosecutor stated that the Chairman NAB had approved the closure of the reference after the new NAB amendment. This development comes in the wake of the Lahore’s Anti-Corruption Court’s decision to acquit former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz in the Ramzan Sugar Mills reference.

The NAB prosecutor replied that the board had decided to close the inquiry. The court further asked if it had ever happened that a board made a decision and a new board came and changed it.
