Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has hailed Sri Lanka’s Independence Day as a symbol of unity, national pride, and resilience. In his message on the occasion, President Zardari extended his felicitations to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the government, and the people. He noted that Pakistan and Sri Lanka’s friendship has stood the test of time and that Pakistan’s forces played a significant role in Sri Lanka’s fight against terrorism. The President also highlighted that Sri Lanka’s role in South Asian cooperation is commendable, while India’s prolonged boycott of SAARC meetings is unfortunate. He emphasized the need for Pakistan and Sri Lanka to cooperate on regional security and SAARC’s revitalization, expressing hope that the brotherly ties between the two nations will further strengthen.
In a separate development, President Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people in their struggle for freedom against Indian oppression. He recalled that the Kashmiris have been fighting for their freedom for seven decades and expressed solidarity with his Kashmiri brothers. The meeting also discussed interfaith harmony and religious tolerance.
