PTI Parliamentary Meeting Exposes Divisions Within the Party Leadership
A high-stakes parliamentary meeting held at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad on February 2 has brought to the fore deep divisions within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party leadership. According to sources, MNA Shahid Khatana opposed the impending 8 February lockdown and road closures, sparking a heated debate. PTI sources claimed that during the meeting, Shahid Khatana expressed concerns that the lockdown and road closures would negatively impact the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He reportedly suggested that a list be compiled of those who do not participate in protests outside Adiala Jail. MNA Atif Khan supported Shahid Khatana’s stance during the meeting.
PTI parliamentary party meeting is expected to be attended by Chief Minister Saeed Afridi. According to party sources, PTI President for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Javed Akbar, expressed frustration during the meeting, stating that they are under pressure from workers and are struggling to appease everyone. He retorted to Shahid Khatana, saying, “If we have to make concessions, it should be to those who have worked hard for the party, not to those who have been absent.” He proposed that all members of the assembly resign if they felt the need to take such drastic measures.
Shahid Khatana, in an interview with Geo News, stated that everyone was allowed to express their opinions during the meeting. He reiterated that he had expressed concerns about the lockdown and its potential impact on the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. PTI President Javed Akbar has chosen to remain silent on the matter. However, he reasserted his support for the Kashmiri brothers and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to interfaith harmony and tolerance.
