The Senate Committee on Law and Justice has proposed recording audio and video proceedings of family courts, following the consent of the parties involved. The meeting, chaired by Senator Farooq H. Naik, discussed the Family Courts (Amendment) Bill, presented by Senator Sarmed Ali. The senator proposed reducing the time given to respondents in family courts from 30 days to 15 days, recording audio and video proceedings, and storing them safely.
Federal Minister for Communications and Special Initiatives Ali Nawaz Awan apologized to Senator Palwasha Khan of the Pakistan Peoples Party during the Senate session. He added that the founder of PTI is presented through video link in court proceedings, but this facility is not available to the general public. Senator Kamran Michael suggested that the judiciary should leave the matter to its discretion, saying that lawyers would misuse this amendment. He also mentioned that a judge had used video link to sentence Imran Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha.
The Administrative representative of Islamabad stated that they have supported the bill with some amendments. During the session, the committee has approved the recommendation of recording audio and video proceedings with the consent of the parties involved. The committee rejected a bill that makes graduation a mandatory condition for public office and also postponed the bill to amend Article 228.
Separately, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has announced that the case of Nadeem Jamali, who was involved in the shooting of two police officials in Argesan Colony on January 6, is under trial. As per official documents, over 3,073 cases of missing persons have been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by January 2026, with 2,760 cases being resolved, and 970 cases still under investigation.
