The Chief Minister of Balochistan, Sanaullah Zehri, has stated that the surge in militant activities in the region is due to the government’s conciliatory policy. In an interview with Geo News program ‘New Pakistan,’ he said, “Whenever militants carry out attacks in cities, they create a state of fear among the people, turning them into pawns.”
Meanwhile, Interior Minister, Senator Musa Ghani, claimed that India is behind the recent attacks in Balochistan, saying that the country will suffer a decisive defeat, just as it did previously. He stated, “The number of militants is not more than 200, and we had secret information about the attacks in Shaheed Sufi Muhammad Town and Panjgur. I request the international media to refer to them as militants.”
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of unity among all segments of society during times of conflict, saying, “Every segment of society should stand with the government during the time of war.” He added, “Before 2018, the government’s policy was not conciliatory, and militant activities increased due to this policy.”
In a separate incident, the funeral prayers of nine police officials who were martyred in a recent attack in Quetta were offered at the police line. They stated, “The National Action Plan is the largest document after the Constitution of Pakistan, and all the political and military leadership has agreed on it.” The Chief Minister also said, “The operation in Noskhahi is still ongoing, and militants do not have more than 2-3% support from the local population.”
He further stated, “The Afghan interim government had promised the world that its territory would not be used against any country, but it is being used against Pakistan.” The Chief Minister added, “In the past year, over 1,000 militants were killed in intelligence-based operations, and the total number of militants and their facilitators is not more than 4-5,000 in the province.”
There is a possibility of a change in the position of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, who may be posted to the federal government. In a related development, the permanent committee on trade in the Senate asked tough questions about the import of goods from the US, barter trade, and the performance of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
