The federal Minister for Power, Ahsan Iqbal, has announced that the government has reduced the electricity rate burden on industries to zero, in line with the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The government has also decided to reduce the wharfage charges by 9 rupees and has reduced the tax rate for exporters from 7% to 4%. The electricity rate burden for industries was 8 rupees 90 paisa per unit at the beginning of the present government, but it has been reduced to zero under the Prime Minister’s guidance. The Minister further stated that the wharfage charges will also be reduced by 4 rupees 40 paisa due to the cross-subsidy, making electricity available to industries at a rate of almost 1.1 rupees per unit.
