Pakistan’s Balochistan government has approved the dissolution of the Provincial Ministry of Religious Affairs. In a move to redirect funds, the ministry’s 4 billion rupee Zakat fund, which was initially allocated for the Benazir Income Support Program, will be reallocated.
The decision comes after the parliamentary committee made recommendations to the Ministry of Religious Affairs regarding the attendance of a parliamentary delegation at the Roza-e-Rasool, which was paid for with public funds. Following the decision, nearly 450 employees of the ministry will lose their positions. The government will transfer the ministry’s properties, vehicles, offices, and furniture to the Board of Revenue.
A notice for the dissolution of the ministry is expected to be issued within a week, after which the staff stationed at the Provincial Secretariat will be shifted to the Ministry of Planning and Development. According to officials, the staff stationed in the districts will be assigned to Deputy Commissioners and Divisional Commissioners.
