The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Religious Affairs has proposed sending an official parliamentary delegation to the Roza-e-Rasool (SAW) on government expense to represent the Pakistani nation. The Standing Committee meeting, chaired by PPP’s Member of the National Assembly Shagufta Jumani, discussed the proposal to send a parliamentary delegation to Medina every year to offer condolences on government expense. The committee also sought an Hajj quota from the Minister for Religious Affairs. According to the committee, the delegation will first visit Medina to pay their respects and then make the pilgrimage to Makkah, representing the Pakistani nation. The delegation will consist of lawmakers, their families, and will undertake the Umrah on behalf of the nation. The committee also proposed that the delegation be led by the Speaker of the National Assembly in their absence. The committee also suggested that the delegation be accommodated in a hotel on government expense, and that the families of lawmakers should bear the expenses of accompanying the delegation.
The Minister for Religious Affairs, Sardar Yousaf, expressed his support for the proposal, stating that the delegation’s visit will be an honor for the nation, and that there is no harm in using government funds for the purpose. He added that the delegation will be provided with necessary facilities, including medical and other amenities, and that the Pakistan Hajj Directories will arrange for transportation.
The Standing Committee on Religious Affairs also suggested that a conference on the life of the Prophet (SAW) be held every year, and that the National Assembly should adopt a resolution to send a delegation to Medina every year. The committee also discussed the ongoing protests in Abu Dhabi, where President Asif Zardari met with the UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan. The Prime Minister also reviewed the performance of the National Accountability Bureau and appreciated its efforts to introduce technology-based reforms and improve public services.
