The incident occurred at a residence in which three children were also present. According to the Indian Consulate in Atlanta, one of the victims was an Indian citizen. The Consulate has stated that the suspect has been apprehended and is being held accountable for the tragic event.
According to the Georgia Police Department, the suspect’s identity has been revealed as 51-year-old Vjay Kumar. The victims include his wife, Memu Dogra, Guru Kumar, Nidhi Chandra, and Harish Chandra. The police report that when the gunfire erupted, three children were in the house and had to take refuge in a closet to avoid harm. One of the children called the emergency number to alert the authorities, who arrived on the scene within minutes.
The police have confirmed that the children were unharmed and were subsequently handed over to a family member. International media reports indicate that multiple serious charges, including murder, harassment, and child abuse, have been filed against the Indian-born suspect.
