Karachi, Sindh – The process of identifying the victims of the devastating blaze at the iconic Glendale Plaza shopping center in Karachi continues, with authorities confirming that the DNA of two more bodies has been identified. According to officials, the DNA analysis was conducted at the DNA Lab of the University of Karachi’s Sindh Forensic DNA Lab, and the names of the victims have been confirmed as Muhammad Tahir and Muhammad Shehzeb. This brings the total number of bodies identified through DNA analysis to 15.
Chief Fire Officer Hameed Ullah Khan stated that the search and rescue operation is still underway, with the debris being cleared. As of now, the University of Karachi has received DNA samples of 42 bodies, while 55 references from the families of the victims have been received to aid in the identification process.
The Glendale Plaza fire, which occurred last week, has resulted in the loss of 71 lives, with 20 bodies having been identified, and post-mortem examinations of all 71 bodies have been completed. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Javed Nabi Khowaja announced the completion of the eighth day of the search operation at the site.
