Karachi, Pakistan – In a devastating incident, a massive fire engulfed the Glue Plaza in Karachi, leaving 28 people dead and several others injured. The fire broke out in the early hours of the morning, with reports suggesting that it started on the ground floor and quickly spread to the upper floors.
Suleman, a shop owner who lost his cousin in the tragedy, said that he was not present at the plaza when the fire started but rushed to the scene later. He claimed that there were no emergency exits in the building, making it difficult for people to escape. Suleman also stated that his workers, including Yasmin, Arif, and Sadique, are still missing.
Doctor Abid, who is leading the rescue operation, said that the search and rescue efforts are ongoing and that a team of experts is working to identify the victims. Suleman alleged that his cousin, Abdullah, was on the phone when he said that it was difficult to escape, and that many people were injured while trying to flee the scene.
The Fire Brigade officials have confirmed that the rescue operation on the ground floor has been completed, and efforts are now focused on searching the upper floors. Shahzad Zuber, another shop owner, said that there were 26 gates in the plaza, but only two were open at the time of the fire.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many expressing their shock and grief on social media. The Sindh government has announced a probe into the incident, and the authorities have promised to take strict action against those responsible for the tragedy.
The fire at the Glue Plaza is the latest in a series of incidents that have highlighted the lack of safety measures in place in Pakistan’s shopping malls and buildings. The incident has also raised questions about the government’s response to such emergencies and the measures in place to prevent such tragedies in the future.
In a separate development, a fire broke out in the Rampla Plaza, adjacent to the Glue Plaza, after the incident. The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has declared the building non-functional until further notice.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of a powerful Western disturbance that could affect the upper regions of the country over the next 24 hours.
The death toll from the Glue Plaza fire has now risen to 28, with 11 bodies identified so far. The authorities are working to identify the remaining victims and provide support to their families.
The incident has also raised questions about the safety of shopping malls and buildings in Pakistan, with many calling for stricter safety measures to be put in place to prevent such tragedies in the future.
