The Islamabad District and Sessions Court has ordered the arrest of Imran Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha in the controversial tweets case, withdrawing their bail. The hearing of the case was conducted, during which Hadi Ali Chattha appeared. He stated that Imran Mazari wanted to cross-examine witness Shereoz, prompting the judge, Afzal Majuqa, to instruct Imran Mazari to complete the cross-examination or lose the right to do so.
Shaheer Afzal Murtaza requested the court to grant a day’s time to answer the questions under section 342. Chaudhry Naeem Gujjar, the president of the Islamabad District Bar Association, said that the date for answering the questions should be given on Tuesday, after which they would not make any further requests.
He further stated that Imran Mazari’s health is poor, and she wanted to cross-examine the witness herself. However, the prosecution opposed the request for adjournment, saying that the court should summon the witness and begin the cross-examination.
A heated argument ensued between Chaudhry Naeem Gujjar and the prosecutor, Rana Usman, in the courtroom, prompting Judge Afzal Majuqa to leave the chamber. Imran Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha failed to appear in court after the adjournment, leading the court to cancel their right to cross-examine.
The court adjourned the hearing until tomorrow, instructing that the statement under section 342 should be recorded. The court also stated that wearing helmets would be mandatory for motorcycle riders, and only approved kite strings would be allowed for kite-flying.
