Texarkana, Texas Police officers encountered an unexpected sight when they spotted a kangaroo hopping around Spring Lake Park earlier this week.
Situated about 180 miles east of Dallas along the Arkansas border, Texarkana was the unlikely setting for this unusual encounter.
Responding officers swiftly took charge of the situation and apprehended the marsupial, affectionately dubbed “Rocky.”
Authorities revealed that Rocky was accompanied by his family, who were also present in the vicinity. Several witnesses remarked that they had previously spotted this kangaroo family in the park.
A photo shared by the Texarkana Texas Police Department quickly garnered attention online, with many expressing surprise and delight at the rare sighting of a kangaroo in the park, an uncommon occurrence in the local area.
While kangaroos are not native to Texas, owning one is legal in the state, as it is in 12 other states. The region’s hot, arid climate makes it an appealing destination for those interested in keeping these marsupials, reminiscent of their native Australia.
Although the circumstances leading to the presence of the kangaroo family in Texas remain unclear, it is evident that they are enjoying their time at the city park.
Texans are renowned for their appreciation of wildlife, and Rocky and his family appear to have found a welcoming environment in the Lone Star State.
So, if you happen to find yourself in Texarkana, be sure to keep an eye out for Rocky and his family. You never know when you might have the chance to encounter these majestic creatures up close and personal in the heart of Texas!
