The Northwest Independent School District and the U.S. Navy convened in Justin on Saturday to commemorate the life of 27-year-old Nathan Gage Ingram, a Navy SEAL from Trophy Club who went missing during an overseas operation in January.
“Today, we’re gathered to hold a ceremony in honor of Special Warfare Operator 2nd Class Nathan Gage Ingram. We have family members, fellow servicemen who served alongside Gage, and many community members here to pay tribute to his service and sacrifice,” stated U.S. Navy Ensign Tony Curtis.
On January 11, U.S. officials reported that the Navy SEAL and Byron Nelson High School graduate was part of a mission to board a ship suspected of transporting illicit Iranian-made weapons to Yemen. During the operation, when one of his fellow SEALs slipped, Ingram courageously attempted to rescue him. Despite extensive search and rescue efforts, both men were presumed lost at sea.
“When someone of Gage’s caliber, a hero for our country, is lost, it’s important for us to honor and pay tribute to him,” remarked Erika Sallee.
As a resident of Trophy Club and an Air Force veteran, Sallee felt compelled to bring her daughters to the memorial at the Northwest ISD stadium, recognizing the sacrifice associated with military service and offering respect.
“I’ve experienced firsthand the significance of service and what it means for families, so showing our support for his family is incredibly meaningful,” added Sallee’s daughter, Riley.
Following the ceremony, which was closed to the media, Curtis conveyed a message from Ingram’s family.
“They wish to convey their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the local community, first responders, law enforcement, as well as the Northwest ISD, for their unwavering support and compassion during this challenging time,” he stated.
“They are thankful for the overwhelming outpouring of love, kindness, and generosity from familiar faces and strangers alike, offering their condolences and prayers, which has deeply touched their hearts.”
