More than 153,000 students across all Texas A&M University institutions now have access to complimentary mental health services.
Announced on Monday, the school system revealed that students can utilize TELUS Health Student Support, a confidential mental health care app, which offers 24/7 access to virtual counseling via phone or chat. Additionally, students can schedule appointments for short-term support via telephone or video.
James Hallmark, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs for the 11 universities in the A&M System, emphasized the importance of the app in facilitating access to mental health care, especially considering that many students may be hesitant to seek help.
TELUS, available on Android and iOS platforms, allows students to connect with professional counselors conveniently. The app supports multiple languages, including Spanish, French, Mandarin, and Cantonese, with additional languages available upon request.
Students can schedule multiple repeat sessions with the same counselor if necessary. The platform also includes an educational library, anonymous mental health assessments, and access to guided meditations and fitness sessions.
In expressing gratitude, Hallmark acknowledged Chancellor John Sharp and the A&M System Regents for their investment in mental health care benefits, underscoring the importance of mental health in student success.
Students are encouraged to reach out to their campus University Health Services for further details.
