At the Social Justice Conference held on the campus of Paul Quinn College, the former and current heads of the Rainbow Push Coalition joined forces.
Dr. Frederick Haynes III, based in Dallas and serving as the senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church, feels honored by the leadership legacy that Reverend Jesse Jackson is passing down to him as the president of the Rainbow Push Coalition.
“Humbled by the legacy he’s leaving behind, Reverend Jesse Jackson is not only an icon but also my hero and big brother,” Haynes remarked.
Haynes acknowledges the weight of following in the footsteps laid by Jackson and others before him.
“Knowing that he has made significant changes to the world and the nation for the better, and then having him prayerfully choose me as his successor is truly mind-blowing,” Haynes expressed.
In an exclusive interview with NBC 5, Jackson explained why he selected Haynes to take over the leadership.
“He possesses integrity, a willingness to fight, and vision. Without vision, you perish,” Jackson emphasized.
These qualities are also recognized by others who know Haynes well.
“I’ve known Dr. Haynes for a long time,” remarked social justice advocate and conference panelist Tamika Mallory. “We’ve been in many battles together in the movement. He’s unafraid and unhesitant to lead, and I believe his leadership is crucial in this time to bring together elders and youth, ensuring that none of us are left behind.”
This aligns with Jackson’s vision for Haynes and the Rainbow Push Coalition.
“We must advocate for enduring and meaningful change,” Jackson insisted.
