On the inaugural evening of Black History Month, a significant social justice organization welcomed a new leader.
In a ceremony held in downtown Dallas, Reverend Doctor Frederick Haynes was formally appointed as the CEO of Rainbow PUSH, a coalition established by Reverend Jesse Jackson, who, at 82 years old, was present at the event.
“I’m still processing the fact that Rev. Jackson, a hero, icon, and personal mentor, chose me to succeed him as president,” remarked Haynes.
A native of Dallas and a graduate of Bishop College, Haynes has served as the senior pastor at Friendship-West Baptist Church for four decades, overseeing the growth of membership from under 100 to over 13,000.
While retaining his position as pastor, Haynes aims to lead the Chicago-based organization from Dallas, carrying forward Reverend Jackson’s vision.
“In addition to continuing its existing mission, we will address one of the major crises of our time, which is environmental justice. Unfortunately, life expectancy is not determined by genetic code but by zip code,” Haynes emphasized.
Rainbow PUSH, also known as People United to Serve Humanity, is a globally recognized human and civil rights organization.
The historic occasion drew leaders such as Rev. Al Sharpton and State Senator Royce West.
“Given his extensive involvement at the local, statewide, and national levels, no one can dispute that Frederick Haynes is the right person to lead this organization,” affirmed West.
