An employee at Prairie View A&M University was shot and killed Monday in a shooting on campus that led to a shelter-in-place order.
The shooting occurred at about 11 a.m. at the Governor Bill and Vera Daniels Farm and Ranch at Prairie View A&M, which is in southeast Texas, the university said in a statement. A campus-wide shelter-in-place order was lifted after about two hours.
An employee, who has not been identified, died at the scene of the shooting. The suspect, a former employee, was detained and taken into custody, the university said. The former employee has not yet been identified.
All in-person classes were canceled following the shooting. The university encouraged faculty, staff and students to seek assistance if they need help processing the shooting.
