HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — An Weather Alert Day is in effect through Wednesday due to the threat of localized street flooding. Less than three inches of rain will be common, but isolated spots could pick up between five to seven inches of rain. A Flood Watch remains in effect for most of Southeast Texas through 7 p.m. Wednesday.
An upper-level low near San Antonio will push another round of heavy thunderstorms into Southeast Texas Wednesday. These storms will then slowly push through Houston thoroughout the day. While localized street flooding is the primary concern, creek and bayou flooding cannot be ruled out.
What can we expect with the storms?
The heaviest storms could drop up to four inches of rain in one hour, and that would immediately bring a concern for street flooding along with a secondary threat of bayou and creek flooding. Frequent lightning could also knock out the power. Small hail and gusty winds over 40 mph cannot be ruled out. By Thursday, the upper low should be far enough away to bring rain chances down to 60%, but there could still be some widely scattered afternoon thunderstorms. The rain chance will drop even more on Friday ahead of another stormy weather system that moves through the state on Mother’s Day weekend.
Are any more cold fronts on the way?
It looks like we could have a weak front possibly move in Monday or Tuesday after Mother’s Day.
