HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — We’re in for some incredible weather Friday during the daylight hours, but after sunset we’ll be staring at another line of potentially severe thunderstorms blowing in from the northwest.
A gentle northwest breeze will dry out the atmosphere Friday. Abundant sunshine will warm that dry air quickly into the 80s with highs peaking in the mid 80s. While the sky will be lit up by the sun during the day, it will likely get lit up by lightning in the evening.
This line of thunderstorms will develop along a cool front blowing in Friday night. Any storms that turn severe could produce quarter-size hail and wind gusts over 60 mph. Tornadoes and flash flooding are unlikely. These storms could still linger around sunrise Saturday, but then the atmosphere dries up pretty quickly.
What does the rest of the weekend look like?
After the storms clear out Saturday morning, it will be a breezy day with northwest winds sustained at 15-25 mph and gusts as high as 40 mph. Sunday morning starts off cool and crisp with lows in the low 50s. It will feel nearly perfect outside all day Sunday with that low humidity and afternoon highs in the low 80s.
Is there anymore severe weather coming next week?
It’s possible but too soon to say at this time. The work week will start just like the weekend finished: Sunny with low humidity and pleasant temps. You’ll feel the moisture levels rising Tuesday as the Gulf breeze picks up, and thunderstorm chances return for the latter half of the week as upper air disturbances roll over the warm, humid air.
