Sunnyvale ISD is delaying classes Friday morning by two hours due to a search for a fugitive that has been ongoing since Thursday evening. Sunnyvale police are requesting citizens to shelter in place.
In a Facebook post, Sunnyvale ISD said, “our Police Department is confident of the suspect’s location but he has not yet been brought into custody.”
The school district said the delay will allow police to continue their search without the traffic of the start of school. The district anticipated buses will run 2 hours late.
About 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sunnyvale police advised residents in the area of Jobson Road and the north service road of Highway 80 to shelter in place. The Town of Sunnyvale advised residents to lock their doors.
As of 6:15 a.m. Friday, the shelter in place remains in effect, according to the Town of Sunnyvale’s Facebook page, “out of an abundance of caution.”
Sunnyvale’s Town Hall will delay opening until 10 a.m. Friday, the town said in a social media post, “due to its proximity to the active police scene.”
