HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A cold front blowing in overnight is going to bring a frigid wind to Southeast Texas on Friday. Temperatures will drop down into the mid 40s around sunrise, but because of the winds and some added clouds in the sky, highs will only make it back into the mid 50s.
The northwest breeze will hold steady at 15 to 25 mph with gusts over 30 mph possible.
A pocket of very cold air aloft will make for some unique clouds Friday and Saturday a the chilly air continues to blow through Southeast Texas.
What can we expect for the weekend?
It will be rather chilly this weekend! Temperatures Saturday morning will drop into the mid 30s with the wind pushing the “feels like” temp into the upper 20s. Sunshine that break through the clouds will only warm temps up into the mid 50s. Once the sun sets, temperatures will quickly drop to near freezing, and it could be a frosty start to the day. Clouds will be on the increase Sunday as our next weather system approaches, but highs will still manage to reach into the low 60s.
Are more freezing temperatures possible?
Absolutely. After the potential for freezing temperatures this weekend, we expect another strong cold front to arrive late next week that could put us back down near freezing. Winter is not done with us yet!
What’s the outlook for Valentine’s Day?
Our confidence is increasing that a strong Pacific storm system will push through the state on Valentine’s Day. For now it appears that the rain will push through in the morning, and if that holds the primary concern will be street flooding. If the main wave of thunderstorms arrives in the afternoon, then severe weather, including tornadoes, will be possible.
