HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — You’ll want to stay weather aware well into the weekend.
Training thunderstorms dropped over 6″ of rain in the Pasadena and Deer Park areas.
The rest of the overnight period and Friday will be relatively quiet with just a few passing showers.
The Weather Team has declared the period from Friday through Saturday morning Weather Alert Days. The rain will last into Saturday, with a flood watch in effect until 12 p.m. that day.
That said, we strongly encourage you to have a way to receive weather alerts as you go about celebrating the next few days with family and friends.
We strongly encourage you to stay weather aware Thanksgiving Day and Friday! This storm system is coming in slower and stronger to keep a Flash Flood threat going through Saturday morning. Full forecast timing and impacts here: https://t.co/kYz1z4PF5L #txwx #houwx pic.twitter.com/k1ZWLcUl8c

A powerful weather system that dropped down just west of Texas on Thanksgiving Day has brought widespread showers and thunderstorms to the eastern half of Texas.
When can we expect rain on Friday?
Outside of a few passing showers the morning will be mostly calm. The heavy thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon hours when the next disturbance moves in. Our coastal counties will more than likely be the wettest area during daylight hours Friday.
When will the heaviest rain fall?
Friday night through the middle morning hours Saturday is when the heaviest rain will fall. We’re very concerned about training thunderstorms that could produce widespread street flooding during that time. Some rises on creeks and bayous is also possible but major bayou flooding is not anticipated at this time.
How much rain are expecting in total?
We believe between now and Saturday the rainfall totals will generally average between 2-5″, but there will be some isolated pockets that easily exceed 6″ of rain. Where this happens, bayou and creek flooding will be possible. Otherwise, street flooding will be the primary concern both Thanksgiving day and Friday. We expect the highest totals to fall in two bursts, one on Thursday afternoon, the second on Friday night.
When will we dry up over the weekend?
Plan for rain to continue into Saturday morning, and as long as the weather system doesn’t slow down any more, we should dry out Saturday afternoon. We’ll even get some sunshine to end the day. Temperatures could briefly dip into into the 50s during the middle of the day as the cooler, drier air blows in, then warm back up into the 60s once the sun comes out. Sunday still looks completely sunny with a cold morning in the upper 40s and a pleasant afternoon in the low 70s.
