Mount Ibu, one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes, has erupted for the fifth time this year, sending a towering column of smoke and ash into the atmosphere, prompting evacuations.
The volcanic eruption on Wednesday raised the alert level to the highest category. Local disaster management authorities are preparing to evacuate around 3,000 residents from five nearby villages. Mount Ibu has become increasingly active since June, with significant eruptions occurring frequently in the first weeks of January alone.
