Islamabad High Court Judge Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani expressed strong disapproval over the 10-year delay in a land transfer case during a hearing. He criticized the judiciary for delays in delivering judgments, stating that such cases, which could be resolved in a few hours, are taking years due to the inefficiencies within the system.
Questioning the performance of judges, Justice Kiyani remarked, “This case took 10 years to resolve, which could have been concluded in one hour.” He added, “Judges are incompetent, but lawyers should not contribute to this delay either.” He acknowledged the contributions of many great judges to the judiciary but noted that delays in case resolutions remain an ongoing issue.
Expressing regret over the waste of public time and resources, Justice Kiyani emphasized, “If a case takes 10 years, what fault lies with the public?” He pointed out that the case had more than 150 court hearings, which not only wasted judicial time but also drained public resources.
Justice Kiyani advised lawyers not to contribute to the judiciary’s failures and to present their cases with professionalism. The hearing was attended by Additional Judges Mohammad Shabbir Bhatti and Judge Hamid Iqbal Dilawar, and Justice Kiyani reserved the judgment.
